'OL DOC BY THE BEACH'
by Judy Joy Jones
ol doc by the beach
shuffled his
crippled feet
down the hall
an stood
next to me
"holly can
you give
me a hand"
his wife
gently
touched my
back that
hurt so bad
the ol doc
popped
my neck
never sayin
a word
an slowly shuffled
back down da hall
i could walk again
with no pain
an all he charged me
was ten dollars
the going rate
of other doctors nearby
was two hundred dollars
'why are you so cheap'
i asked
the ol doc by the beach
"i was in the war
an a bomb injured
my feet'
"doctors wanted
cut em off
but i said
no way"
"the good lord
still has work for me
an i will be needing
my feet"
ill never forget
the ol doc
by the beach
who showed me
what true
compassion means
oh yeah
the ol doc by the beach
showed me what
compassion really means
an the sounds
of his shufflin feet
will be with
me thru eternity
ol doc
by the beach
with shuffling feet
