In a Cherokee Nation a desert rose was born, and was given the name Southern Comfort, which not even a Sioux brave bearing one-hundred bearskins could claim.

Poem Artwork

Dedicated to our Southern Comfort friend in AD

Winter can sneak upon you when you aren’t looking,
or when of wild horses dreaming ignore coyote’s call,
which will say that Father winter’s coming very soon
and teepees will go on dressing white, bride’s of cold.

Dry firewood will be scarce and brother tree’s wood
couldn’t be taken, from Medicine Man we will be told,
“under your bearskin better if you get a fiery squaw
for the long night of brother Ice to keep you warm”.

Will no freeze this winter Father Winter, if you will…
send the longer of the longest of your blizzard storms,
I will be safe, like a brother Eskimo in his white igloo,
under my bearskin, I will have my Southern Comfort.
