You are on the opposite side
of the emotional river,
calling me over,
but I cannot swim, not anymore.
Entering the last days of my life,
having living without, suddenly,
you are showing me the furtive
face of that love that never was…
You said to me,
“in another time, in another place,
I would have chased you
until you caught me…”
In another time, say eighteen sixty-three?
and another place, Savannah?
The Lady, the Officer and Gentleman,
and the magnolias.
Yes, another time in another place.
And now, too late, you are there,
on the other side of the emotional river
calling me over…
…and I am too old to swim.

In his village he used to put his underware next to Ms Crockers bloomers, he was born in 1878, ms crocker about the same age and very victorian, yet my granddad was in stitches...
Never to old. Here, a young lady of mere 83 has just married a chap of 92....
A very heartfelt piece, brother. But hopefully, we ancient Eds will yet have many adventures - in other times, and in other places, and perhaps, even in other lives. And I don't believe we are ever too old to swim in love's waters.
