You came...I whispered

I dropped the anchor in a secluded arm of Lake Moultrie, the astern
just level to a deserted docking close for the season, not far away
from the road, the rings on the calm, glass like water tiptoing towards to
the opposite shore like rainbows on a reflected sky on the lake’s face.
I had told her that I would be arriving that afternoon, that I didn’t expected
her to make the trip, even if it was a short one, but that if a goodbye was
to be said, my ears to hear it and my heart to get empty then and there.
Time was running away from us, like the last sand corns of the hourglass
which no one of us wished to see telling us that our time was up.
I don’t know how long I stood in the middle of the salon, but I heard the
soft and vacillating steps on the thick carpet, turned around, she was there.

“You came” I whispered, “You came”
“Yes” she said, “ tell me how I couldn’t?”
suddenly to put my trust on my voice
I stopped, words had left me, I was mute,
blurred, my eyes that could see the stars,
to discern the lovely face where blind,
my quivering fingers found her chin
and gentle very gentle forced the face up
her lips parted just a warmth whisper
and I kissed them with a tenderness
that I never did know inside me I had,
how long it was? A few seconds kiss,
or years between our lips kept passing by;
a burning yearning brought the tears
as I embraced her with so aching arms,
like the branches of an old oak tree,
which were so empty for so long a time,
“You came” kept whispering “You came”
as my heart was listening to her heart.

I have enjoyed the reading of "You came...I whispered" as a poem, but its closing lines:
...................................../
"like the branches of an old oak tree,
which were so empty for so long a time,
“You came” kept whispering “You came”
as my heart was listening to her heart."

......................................... < are simply great.

I salute You, Poet.
