Steps we take today, all that matters now,
our yesterdays awash cold stones worn smooth
and footprints swept away, a sea’s lost scow,
regards regrets, which surfed to death, won’t soothe.
Our shipwrecked finds and deep-sea dives as fine
as school us; past, fast-forwards memory’s best;
there rests, saps air, steals draught from sail’s design,
to surge our future; tack, the currents test.
We see the costs of time lost to lament,
without compass caught in eddying drifts:
what tales he’d write! one claimed of life’s torment;
his diary’s last days suggests such gifts.
Aft, our yesterdays; fore, the unknown shore;
now, next yesterday; one we can make more.
I am so glad that I stopped by -- this is a wonderment to behold! A truly exceptional poetic write that has rhythmic perfection interwoven into it and through it. Bravo!!

NAILED that meter and rhyming scheme, didn't ya? <Smile!> VERY WELL DONE! Simply presented, this is a very complex philosophical write: you say a lot without preaching, by actually saying very little and implying much!
O yes, Helga, I like this. It speaks to me. Robert nailed it: "sailing through possibility..." I see a change in your recent writings. Something different is emerging; a bold and strong spirited poetic voice I like very much!
All excellent lines in this fabulous poem ,my favorite lines were:
