The Wedding Gift

This day their hearts were united
In the presence of God and man
And kneeling before the altar,
He gently took her hand.

After slipping precious bands of gold
Over trembling fingertips,
He lifted her veil - soft and pale -
And kissed her virgin lips.

He searched her eyes with passionate longing
Knowing what lie ahead:
For tonight would be the first time
He'd lie with her in bed.

She squeezed his hand in understanding;
How they had longed for that pleasure!
The Sacred Union - when two are one! 
Bonding...God's treasure.

Committed unto eternity...
One day to be parents, prayerfully.

For then, their loving union
Would miraculously produce new life:
Genetically blending - into a child -
Each part of this man and wife!

They quivered with expectation
For they were deeply awed
By this Divine wedding gift,
From a gracious, loving God.

*This was written as a tribute to my husband's aunt and uncle, Mr.& Mrs.Frank Santelli, for the celebration of their 50th Wedding Anniversary!  Sadly, they have both passed on now...gladly, they both passed on to The LORD! They are sorely missed.  Aunt Millie and Uncle Frank were the finest examples of pure love, that I have ever witnessed.  Each put the other first; always, sacrificially.  And they shared a strong faith in The Christ, which was their spiritual bond. 

To attain genuine love - which includes the romantic facet - the two have to be connected spiritually, so that they may truly...become AS one.
