Tears that Cleanse

She smiled but I could see in her eyes

A glassy stare and brimming tears

The fact that she smiles was no surprise

It was the tears she shed the cultured my fears.

“How may I help you,” I begged of her then.

In spite of her pain she gave me a smile.

She said very quietly, “I know not where to begin.”

Our love has been a growing together quite a while

But I fear that it cannot overcome the test of time

For as we grow older we find life slip away

It gives no clue, no rhythm or rhyme.

We will be parted I know not what day

However I still get the blues, yes I do

Because we will be parted and I won’t have you.

I held her and comforted her as best as I could

I assured her that our love is a love carved in wood

And that even from beyond my very own grave

There would be a private road of gold that we now pave

With each kiss we kiss and each hug that we give.

Our love will surely forever continue to live

Long after our flesh has turned cold we will Love

That love was given to each of us by God up above.
