Unfinished Business
I started out to complete a chore that I had once begun
But, alas I could not focus on the job until I saw it done.
I have visions of doing great things to make everybody see
That there was really something great and wonderful about me.
Oh, the disappointment when at last I walked away
Muttering quietly to myself, “I’ll finish another day.”
How often do we make great plans and follow glorious dreams
Only to be brought back down to earth feeling hopeless or so it seems.
Oh to be able to fly up high and accomplish a wonderful deed
But, in truth we simply do not have the patience or the energy we need.
If it was written in the scriptures, “faith without works is dead,”
Then surely we are not headed for eternal bliss but to agony instead.
“I wonder,” I think unto myself, “if I expect too much today.”
Does my Lord not know my limitations? Does he not love me anyway?
The wonder of his undying love is the thing that gives me faith to proceed.
If I accomplish nothing more than to plant a wonderful seed
God’s love and power will make it grow so the burden is not all on me.
For when my strength seems to have faded away his love will set me free.
He will hold me up when I feel down and keep my dreams alive
As each day I live for my Lord my hopes and faith survive.
We all have unfinished business as we traverse through this life.
That’s why we are still here on earth, with it’s joys and also strife.
“Keep the faith,” he urges. “Be constantly in prayer as you live day to day
And I will always lead you back if from the path you stray.
God Bless
