I love to watch the Earth as she works through her cycles. There is something about every season that calls me back to my own childhood. I know I cannot stay young, but I can still remember.

Seasonal Changes

I was out riding today and I noticed the clouds are moving higher in the sky.

It is as if they are saying, “We need to make room” but for what I wonder why.

The sky is changing its hue.  It is now a different shade of blue.

I scanned the mountains and admired the trees for they are changing, too.

Until now, the colors have been subtle, just barely enough to see.

Now the leaves are turning to red and yellow, some dropping and quietly blowing all around me.

The temperature is taking on that special chill that only comes with September.

As I admire god’s handiwork, I now pause, contemplate and remember.

As children my brothers and I would rake the leaves into a single pile.

Once the pile was high enough we would dive into them for a while.

Eventually we would tire of this game and our Mother would make a demand.

Those leaves needed to bagged and burned as per her command.

Along with the chore we were told to do, we received a wonderful treat.

As the autumn breeze fanned the burning leaves we planned for something sweet.

We found some sticks and took a bag of marshmallows, a gift from mother dear.

Roasted marshmallows were a treat to enjoy, one more blessing of this time of year.

Now I have grown older but I still have memories that are sweet.

My memories include the birth of spring as well as the summer heat.

It also includes the autumn breeze which cools the earth, preparing her for rest.

After this came snowy winters with icicles and winds with rising zest.

Winter, summer, spring or fall, I know not which I love the best.

Mmm-mmmm. I can still smell...and taste!... those roasted marshmallows, Lew. That's one of my favorite memories, too....and deep-diving in the leaves! LOL We never "grow up", even when we "grow old"...and isn't that just like our loving Heavenly Father...to keep us like children...for such, is the Kingdom of God!

Really enjoyed this poetry, Brother

Enjoyable read, Lew. How well I remember those falling leaves, raking and bagging. Now that I live in a condo, I watch others at work...but to tell the truth, I don't miss all that work! Love the seasons, just don't like the work anymore...shoveling snow is even worse! :)

God Bless
Lena

Ah the fragrant smell of memories. Grass fires and farmyards take me back to days when we mercifully free from the fear spoken about cholesterol, global warming, smoking, terrorism etc etc. The clouds are getting higher? Could be that the clouds want to get away as far as they can from this tired old world - dont blame them
