Johnny Cash had a record out before he died called “Ring of Fire.” In it he sings about the tides that bind. It got me to thinking while listening to the song the other day. What a beautiful thought, “The tides that bind.” It is as if we are all in an ocean so large and yet the tides seem to bring certain people together. God, in his infinite wisdom knows what we need and who we need. It is true that all things work for the good of those who love the Lord.

The Tides that bind! When I was newborn my mother held me in her arms. My parents coddled and nursed me and protected me from anything that harms. Those are the tides that bind. When I grew a little older I found someone to love. It was as if she was sent to me from God above. My love was returned and soon we two were one. Married and expecting our first born son. Those are the tides that bind. Two more children were added to my life. We loved our daughters through joy and through strife. Those are the tides that bind. Now our children are grown and found their own true loves. They have blessed us with grandchildren, more gifts from above. Those are the tides that bind. Life has been an uphill journey but I have had someone to travel it with me. The past is just that, and they future we cannot yet to see But I know that God has been watching over me. He has sent me a wife and children to love with all my heart. He has given me the ability for true love to impart. Those are the tides that bind. The most important gift he has given is the life of his son. I will carry his love till my life on Earth is done. For I know that all that I have are gifts from God who watches over me. He will guide me, nourish me and give me eyes to see That his love is not ending and his forgiveness never fails He protects me, strengthens me and comforts me of what ails. Those, my friend are the tides that bind.
