In my home town there is a creek that runs around this small community and on downstream where there are periods of calm water, seemingly not moving and other places on further downstream where it is running fast and furious. It empties into a river which is much the same as the creek but wider and at places even more furious. The river, like the creek has places where the water is calm and peaceful. My Dad used to take us fishing in these still waters. That is what inspired the next write.

The River of Life

I stand on the bank of the river looking into the water, seemingly moving slow if at all.
I turn and look upstream where the water runs with fury over rock breaks creating a falls.
I find myself drawn back to the tranquility of the water where I stand.
I see the bottom of the river, the water magnifying the fish that swim close to the banks where begins the land.
Then I turn and look downstream where the water is once more running.
The rippling falls and the white foam it creates is a view which is quite stunning.
Life is like that river, you know. Life sometimes runs furious and fast.
And other times it is quiet and complacent but these times do not last.
Tomorrow is another day and it may be quite a race.
It may take all of ones energy to try to keep the pace.
The quiet water in front of me represents today, the here and now.
Those falls upstream represent yesterday but it came to an end somehow.
Downstream is tomorrow but I will let it come as it may.
For right now, I have the present so I will live for today.
Whatever tomorrow brings my way, be it fast moving currents running swiftly on.
I will trust in God for what the future holds and live today before it is gone.
The river moves sometimes at breakneck speed and sometimes seems not to move at all.
I hear it ripple as it moves downstream and hear the rivers call.
I also hear my master calling for me to come home to him.
The rippling waters suddenly sound sweet like a beautiful and holy hymn.
Praise god for the river and praise him for the sky and praise him for the sea.
Praise him for Jesus Christ who died on the cross for you and me.

We are oftentimes too busy to take the time to stop and enjoy the wonders of God's created things. Pity! It's our loss, isn't it? You on the other hand, Lew, are quite clever with your presentations. You make us stop and think deep thoughts. Thanks for that. Keep them coming! :)

God Bless
Lena

Amen, Lew. I am often amazed by how so many souls seem to be too busy to stop and remember the simpler things in life. The natural beauty that the Lord has provided and all of the earthen gifts He has given to us should take precedent over everything else. In the end, is anything else important? Sometimes we just need to slow down and breath.

This is a well-structured and beautiful reminder, as we hurry about this Election Day in the U.S.

Thank you,
Jill

Such a beautiful reminder...he is the river of life for without him we would be lost. Isn't it amazing how we are reminded of him through things that others take for granted. Lovely write and reminder, very inspiring.
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling
