I see people who are afraid to live; to love and to give. I see people who live their lives as if they had to save it when to live it is to spend their lives. The investment of loving others is what life is all about.

Poem Artwork

He sat amongst a crowd that surrounded him and yet he was alone.

The joys of friendship and love to him represented the unknown.

Afraid to make himself vulnerable; he kept his distance from others.

He never learned to cherish good times spent with his many sisters and brothers.

So there he was in a crowd but unable to reach out and embrace.

To love meant to be brave enough to let down his stone cold wall; it was love he could not face.

He never knew what joy he missed for he had never let himself be brave.

So where’ ere he went he hid behind the wall behind which he lived a life so grave.

If only he had torn down that wall; if only he had been brave enough to care.

What joys he could have known with others and what wonders he could share.

Let not yourself hide behind a wall which only makes you a prisoner of your own making.

Joy and happiness is in sharing; caring and loving and it is there for the taking.

There is much wisdom in what you express here, Lew. For some of us, taking the risk of being rejected is something that stems from childhood insecurities that we have not overcome. Coincidentally, I have two poems posted at AD entitled, "Alone." Thank you for sharing. Love and peace,

Regis

Your poem provides great insight into loneliness and alone-ness. Sometimes I've felt so alone, like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders. Thankfully, it was momentary. Happiness and love abound, one need only look around - Amen.

there is so much truth here Lew that you captured the lives of way too many people. even small walls thrown up in haste will cause others to fall around you. Sealing yourself from those who care will isolate the soul and the experience of love, passion and desire will crumble with that walls you built. i enjoyed this work.

Your words speak of those who are afraid to be vulnerable... to the inevitable unknown.
Life and living it is a risk we all must take! Regardless of any past arrows that might have pierced our soft spots...or unthinkable environments of disillusionment, limbs were made for climbing out on or hang from
...and as your hanging there, with the right nourishment, a bud will flower and bloom, and when all is ripe we will bear our fruits and fall to the most wonderful purpose of all!
The BITE!
So depending on your inner juices, will depend on whether your love is sweet enough!
You inspire me, Lew...
Love and Peace~
