Reluctantly, it let go

I watched a single leaf fall from a tree this morning and although it was only one of many it was the one that I saw as alone as it reluctantly let go and flowed away from the tree.

Poem Artwork

Of all the autumn leaves turning brown, yellow and gold

I found myself watching one leaf of Red as it continued to hold.

It would not let go of the limb upon which it was hanging fast

It braved cool autumn breezes and long nights as they passed.

Finally this morning it gave up the fight and simply let go.

I watched as gently downward toward the ground it did flow.

It was no longer a part of the tree which it had ornamented.

It now looked alone, sad and woefully tormented.

I did not mourn the leaf for it had lived its life well, its challenge was done.

It had braved summer heat and storms and scorching sun.

Now it lay on the ground as a lifeless object without a connection to life

Until the autumn breeze whisked it away into the air above care and strife.

Our lives are like that if we only look to see that we have only a season to live.

It is not what we receive that makes a difference in this world but rather what we give.

So treasure each day and when your autumn has come and gone you will know.

That your life has made a difference, your presence can make other lives glow.

Live each day with love and with passion.

Thereby, touching others in the same wonderful fashion.

I too was watching this one single leaf, just this morning...
Somehow it got caught on a single strand of web, hanging in mid-air, suspended...twirling in the breeze.
I love the Fall and how it all forces us to contemplate life...the autumn of, especially
Enjoyed this Lew...you always have me, contented here...
Love and Peace~

The simple wisdom in your poem - "live each day with love and passion" is a wonderful way to live one's life. It helps remind us that there may be no "tomorrow" and how we live today is how people will remember us. I think I live this way, but only time will tell the truth.

God bless you. Kathy
