If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? So not even pagans do that? (Mathew 5:46-47)
Jesus taught us to do good for others
But he did not only mean, do good only for our brothers
He taught us to return hurtful acts with kindness
We should even return love to those who seem heartless
In this way we may be a vessel to plant a seed that will grow and develop
Then one day he may learn to know the Master that we worship
For if we do good only to those who do good to us, what makes us special?
For love returned for love is not nearly a thing that is exceptional
However if we love those who are hurtful in spite of their harsh ways
This is the love of our Lord Jesus Christ whom we praise
So return cruel acts with those of kindness as taught by our Lord
In this way we become a part of a movement to teach and live by his word
Lew, there is such wisdom in this poem, and so well written.That is the sign that we are truely following Jesus I think. Boy,I don't know about you- but sometimes it's very hard for me to do that. Yet- I agree that is what we are asked to do.Thank you for reminding me.
