There in the yard stands a large oak tree

It stands proudly in the sun for us all to see

Each branch that grows individually from the trunk of that tree

Is both part of the tree and also something of its own entity

Waving in the breeze from each of each extremity

Are thousands of leaves as if tossed by the sea

You may think nothing of each one little leaf that you see

But each leaf bestows a part of existence to that maple tree

Consider in your mind the importance of each leaf and you will see

Without it the stem, stalk and bough of the tree could not be

If you compare this to our lives we depend on each other, the same as the tree

So when you feel that your life is worthless take this advice from me

Each leaf adds to the years of existence of the entire oak tree

Just as your life touches on others, people like me
