Life could be so dull and unexciting
If once in a while something unexpected didn’t come
Without these surprises life would become uninteresting
If we never faced life’s challenges we would become apathetic
We would look at each day as just one more reason to yawn
Our minds would not expand and our outlook lethargic
We would probably not even have a reason to greet each dawn
Not all surprises will be delightful or elevating
Some come unexpectedly and without justification
But with the right attitude we can turn it into something edifying
For each happening is a chance for our vindication
What we learn from these trials is a part of our edification
So, greet each day knowing it holds promise of enrichment
Overcoming any obstacles is display of self-improvement
