It was a beginning
As a child I wanted to be saved and that was my lifetime goal
I kneeled at the alter and pleaded with Jesus to please save my soul
As I grow older I began to see that salvation was not easily won
My Lord even today still is working on this and he won’t quit till it is done
Today I know that when I asked Jesus in to my heart this was not the final achievement
There would be joy to feel his love but also times of bereavement
As life progressed and I tried to live for Christ I came to a realization
If I would be saved I had to live through life and face the trials and tribulations
I would be tempted and by overcoming temptation and only then would I be made free
But though my life would not be easy Jesus Christ will stand by me
He told me that I would not be tried for more than I could bear
By bringing these burdens to him I could overcome through faith and also prayer
So daily I come to my Lord and praise him for his generous love
For I know that one day he will carry my spirit to the golden city above
