came from a bit of a sad spot i was in but out of a desire to make the most of time
As I age, I fear as did Keats, Longfellow and Tennyson
That I will leave this world
Well before I have written, accomplished, and contributed
All that I feel I am able
My desire is to slow down and re-visit
The much-loved places that have shaped my life
Like Longfellow looking down upon his home, I too wonder,
Who has changed most-my surroundings or myself?
And the precious friendships past and present
I want to relive in peace all that I have loved
I want to build new memories and sort through the old
Knowing that I, like Frost,
Have miles yet to go before I sleep,
Before, I too, am gone
Forever and forever
I felt this way, oneday...
I went back and traced my steps, visited all the places I had walked, all the doors I once opened, I took pictures as I went from memory to memory. The smell of my old grade school still smelled the same, the doornobs still turned, the pews of the churches I sat in as a child, still there...I had left and went away, but when I returned...I realized, nothing really changes, yeah sure, even a building was missing here and there, and housing develops build up around old homesteads, but, really it all brought back everything I felt while I was once there, and therefore am again...The thoughts, the feelings, the smells, etc...they were rushing back in as if I never left. So, if it's a sad memory, I stay clear, for why wallow in sad when there are so many other places to explore! And, hopefully, they are happytimes ahead!

Wonderful write and the pictures of your childhood remind me of my own, same time frame or close to it I would say. Yes we do have miles to go but we live each day, or I would like to think, a little wiser as we age and apprciate how much there is to lose.
Reflections and Nature Watercolors is a collection of Margaret's spontaneous positive thoughts in celebrating and reflecting on life and her nature watercolors.
