In response to the Reader's comment (Ms Judy): there are other diseases which cannot be cured or properly treated because the cause is not yet known...right here in our country: fibromyalgia syndrome.

The few million dollars that were ear-marked for the research into FMS were diverted and used for other purposes, or so I heard a couple of years ago.

Anyway, keep up the good work, TRASK..not that you need me to tell you that.

Perhaps it shouldn't be "either/or" but "both"? We certainly need to address the causes of injustice and poverty in our own "rich" first-world countries, but wealth is all relative and each one of us must be a heck of a lot "richer" than those who have no food in their bellies and live in the constant shadow of death, one way or another. Perhaps old Bill might like to pay off the Third World Debt by way of a big Christmas present to the planet he has created?!! LOL Kate xx

I'm for you, sir... with all those who run around hollering about patriotism these days, where are the Bill Gates types who, if they wish to relieve themselves of millions, could do a helluva lot right here in this country. If this were the extent of Bill Gates' approach to philanthropy it would be worse than the American approach to foreign aide. However, it is his money, and as such, it is his prerogative to fund programs which somehow touch his heart. I have read different reports concerning his philanthropic gifts and at least from them, he and his wife seem to be extremely generous people, both at home and abroad. I don't know that Mr. Gates has not helped fund the various causes that you hold and I may hold dear. I do not know that he has not funded various groups in this country to help fight our domestic ailments. As always, your work is thought provoking. Enjoyed� Keep them coming!

Of all the diseases on earth Malaria is the one for which no cure has been found only treatment but if he has money to give away contribute it to the National Debt and the people in our country who need help paying their medical bills.
