True Story: 1987 - Crested Butte, Colorado - the "Ski for Liberty- Celebrity Race" .....I totaled my knee using their demo equipment. It took 5 1/2 hours - reconstructive knee surgery and 18 months of therapy until I could walk again without crutches, a brace or a cane !

B E W A R E ----------- - Skiing in Crested Butte, Colorado was dangerous for me It required repair of my A.C.L. and Meniscus surgery. Clouds of morphine, bed pans and wet sheets, Cuts and Bruises - Many needles stuck in Deep Unaware and unconscious and full of distress.. I wonder how in the hell I got into this mess Tears and fears and inconsiderate people Treating me inhuman and much less than equal No shower for days - my head in a haze Now I must use my right leg for my left leg to raise I received loads of attention Flowers - Candy - Fun Gifts and Such Relatives and Friends Visit and it means so very much. Unfortunately, my doctor deserted me immediately after surgery. I must be cursed - I had every mean nurse. They made me cry and I wanted to die . In my final hour, I did get a shower I am grateful to Mrs. Frost without that nurse I would have never been washed. She took good care of me - she was kind she was friendly Recuperation has begun - Not gonna be very much fun Exercise and Pills for Pain Is life now gonna be Mundane? My story has been told Now two Crutches I must hold My left leg in a Brace All This -- Because I entered the Ski for Liberty Celebrity Race ! kg '87

I'm sorry you had to go through this Karen, but at least God was there to keep you alive. I have never been skiing, but I did go tobogganing a lot when I was younger. Thank you for sharing.
