Poem Artwork

Since I cannot touch you,
Nor can I hear your spoken heart.
Since I may never see that smile again,
Nor smell the fragrance that is only you.

Since I cannot make love with you,
Nor feed you cheese, olives and artichoke hearts.
Since I cannot take you home to share a shower,
Nor feel the strident beat of pleasure’s wave.

Since I cannot receive your council wise,
Nor witness pride and joy of your children fair.
Since I cannot know what you think and when,
Nor dry tears, share laughter, or hold your hand.

Since I cannot see into the future for you or I,
Nor am I allowed to stay a part of your life.
Since I cannot change the status of our present,
Nor will I remain a prisoner of fabulous memories.

So, my love,

I write to you.
for you.
about you.
because of you.
in honor of you.

Yet, without you.

The feeling is very painful, since you can not have what you want.

Hi Derek:

Nice poem here. Great end lines.

Just some of my own humble suggestions here:

On your 1st stanza, the 3rd line you have used - "Since I may never....."

Why not do it more consistently, and change the 3rd line of all the other stanzas to begin with the same - "Since I may never....."? I think in this way, you can eliminate the repetition of "Since I cannot" within each stanza.

This is just my humble opinion, you don't have to take this if you don't like what I'm saying.

Enjoyed the read.
