I can identify with you. Barely able to walk, with my girlfriend unable to go with me or have her sons help me, I drove from Houston to Atlanta to my dream home I had to abandoned 10 years earlier in 1990. I rented a U-Haul trailer and worried about my newly overhauled 17-year-old engine while getting 6 miles to the gallon returning. It was a really hot Labor Day and an exhausting trip. Luckily, an immigrant graduate assistant law school student from Africa, pitched in with a friend and got it all into my house. I couldn't even carry a 10 pound box.
It took two months with caregiver help from July through September 1993 to sort through everything and throw away hundreds of pounds of papers, keeping only my articles and published works. Later, like you, I had to sell the dream house in 2001 after 20 years. In an electric wheelchair, I could no longer navigate its five levels anyway.
