When Love Slips Away
By La Belle Rouge

what happens when love slips away
tiptoes quietly out the door of reality
to be written on the pages of memory?

kisses delayed and words unspoken
voices unheard but memorized
how long until the warm lips cool
and the sound of distant voices fade?

so fragrant, so alive, yet so frail is love
a crimson rose whose delicate petals unfold
from strong branches spread high on fences

open wide to the heat of a summer sun
withering when rains are too long delayed
or frost of autumn claims her glory
how strong is love, yet how fragile when neglected

Yours words in this poem totally blew me away. This poem was beautiful. You express reasons for where there are never an answer.

love always needs to be nurtured ... it's thrives in a garden that's well kept but it can also grow wild and still maintain its wonder ...

beautiful poem, La Belle ...

Turner's on about his silk chemise again...!! :)) He's too coy to go Neruda... Yes, this is crushing, like the fragrance spilt of the precious petals so "wasted". I have been meditating that "Did I get it wrong, did I take too long"-idea myself today, based on lyrics from a song on the car radio... How IS it that the dream can sometimes vaporise or harden into clay? As strong and yet as delicate as your subject. Bless you, Kate xx

Belle,

There is only love and beauty in a tendered garden. One must never show neglect. Outstanding verses my friend.

It is sad, "when love slips away"... but then, dearest LaBelle, love is, as you so beautifully described it, a living entity. And as such, it needs to simultaneously nurture and to be nurtured, so it can thrive... both like the flower and like the ground it is planted on.
Marvelous poem!

You have to fan the flames of love every day and never become a couch potato losing interest in your loved one and never going out. Variety is the spice of married life.
