He grasped my hand and led me
back into my open family crypt.
Handful of dirt from the floor he gave me
saying “Hold on to this, don’t let it slip.”
From his pocket he produced a sack
and placed the ancient earth therein.
He said “Lisette take a long look back
for you will never see this place again.”
“Wait” I said, “You promised last night
all your mysteries I would soon know.
Not even knowing your name is not right
nor to not be told to whence I must go.”
“My name is Stefanos,” Said he
“And where we are going you will see.”
Before leaving he closed the coffin lid
and pushed the stone door back in place.
Determination showed in the things he did
and in each of his movements, grace.
How could I be attracted to this fiend
devoid of all conscience and pity as well
pointed fangs and eyes glinting green?
But I was no better than this son of Hell.
For I was undead and undone eternally
consumed with raging bloodlust so vile.
There would never be any hope for me.
I too was the Devil’s own child.
How I wished to embrace death’s boon
to rest in peace within a dark tomb.
He held me fast within his grasp
as from the ground we began to rise.
City of the dead we flew over and past
‘neath the canopy of the moonlit skies.
I watched the sleepy town beneath me
disappear into vaporous mists of night.
Then in a grove of moss covered trees
I could see by the blood moon’s light
a mansion long deserted and hidden
by overgrown trees and winding vines.
A desolate place, dark and forbidden
yet reflecting elegance of another time.
Stefanos whispered seductively in my ear
“My Blushing Bride, welcome home Dear.”
Gives me chills reading and a tale like no other. Now an unwilling child of the darkness, a wife, yet a new life yet to unfold, what a fantastic write....

Why does she have to hold onto the dirt? If she lets it go, will things change?
