Present Prayer

Lord, I'm happy, truly, deeply happy
I love and am loved so wondrously
It seems each time I reach an apex
the past comes back to haunt me
words of hate and accusation continue
to wound my heart, steal my concentration

Help me, Jesus, to lay the past to rest
to leave it in its grave forevermore
I can't change any of it, now or ever
I have asked for your forgiveness
I have accepted your mercy and grace
bless those who hate me, Father
show grace to them as you have to me

Lord, help me to live in the happiness
of the present day, for I have no other
all that was stolen from me, materially
emotionally and publicly, I let go with
an open hand, none of it matters in eternity
what matters is love, truth and forgiveness
I have forgiven all who will not forgive me
thank you for light in darkness, for all of us
