As the shells were overhead
Down in my trench I lay
Waiting for the bombard to finish
For me it was just another day
Over the top we would charge
With gunfire all around
Colleagues shot to pieces
Like cards all falling down
Back to the trenches we would go
Far fewer than before
Out there into no-mans land
Our friend were dying on the floor
On forever on the battle raged
My heart was beating fast
God please stop this torture
How long will this battle last
I am very weak and tired now
I am shaking like a leaf
I want things like they used to be
For a world of perfect peace
No human being should see
The things that I have seen
The scars will never leave me
I have nightmares when I dream
If I am allowed to grow older
I will never forget what I saw
I will take my memories to the grave
Of all those I lost in war
