There was a time I did believe,
we lived in peace -  I felt relieved
from harm - no one could shatter.

No foreign country was a threat,
no conflict seemed to matter:
political view or solemn faith.

"How naive I was!" you hear me say,
"How self absorbed!" I was in a way
"How ignorant and overfed!"

It's days away - then only hours
as I remember those two towers
and the lasting images of the dead.

Next to you I should stand united,
hold on together and be excited
to live in this great land, but instead-
