A fire roars and crackles under a massive mantelpiece and gently warms the room.
Huge bay windows, with patterns of icy lace (courtesy of Jack Frost),
look out upon a fairytale view of a deep, quiet wood where twilight is at bloom.
The romantic atmosphere and light the fire exudes are worth the physical cost.
Big snowflakes dance and swirl in the crisp night air.
A deep sense of peace slides over us and,
as always, there is a huge loss of mundane care.
I am always soothed by the nearness of you and this beautiful land.
Outside there are brief glimpses of vivid stars and a frosty moon,
while a light mantle of snow is already on the ground.
Inside, deep goose-down blankets and soft pillows draw us to them, but it’s too soon.
A perfect snowfall is happening with its usual hushed and reverent sound.
A bubbling hot Jacuzzi sits in a glassed-in gazebo waiting for a dip.
Warm steamy air floats over it and calls us by name, while
a bottle of wine cools in the snow waiting for a sip.
We turn to each other with a joyful smile.
Afterwards, we walk back inside and climb in that huge sleigh bed
and we celebrate our life and finding each other by making love.
In my dreams, there are sparkling stars and a frosty moon hanging overhead.
I smile dreamily and, with deep appreciation, thank God above.
