... my first car... 1977 mercury monarch... best car ever...

Poem Artwork

born before me
but only by a decade
a once shiny blue
now littered with rust
four hubcaps
two different kinds
the boat
beater of the month
a perfect surface
for late night crying
and star watching
a road trip through a field
a squeaky U-joint
leaking every liquid on earth
including orange juice
i almost lost it on a culvert
finally a broken door
and a leaky gas tank
warranted your retirement
but still you sit there
in my yard
looking at me with your
sad, round head lights
i remember the late night drives
with the windows down
(not that it mattered,
the wind blew in anyway)
listening to counting crows
being free
feeling alive
loving to drive
in the monarch
the monarch
the monarch...

very nice...a real trip down memory lane. My counterpart to your Monarch was a 77 LeSabre wagon...9 passanger, a radio that would only allow an oldies station to play..I called it TheBoat.

i remember dropping you off in the monarch, in the monarch so you could fly away and get your socks wet in the ocean ... there are many places yet to go ... in the monarch, in the monarch ... or otherwise.
