This dear soul was my friend and I loved her but I truly believed I killed her.

I Killed Miss Carrie!

In the center of the block was the oldest home around.
Where two old spinster teachers lived and detested any sound.
No one was supposed to skate on their sidewalk by their house.
I would tiptoed past the old house, as quiet as a mouse.

The kids were all afraid of them for they would yell and scream.
They always were so angry, at least that’s what it seemed.
Then one day I fell down and had a bloody knee.
Out came the little old lady, who came to rescue me.

She helped me up and took me inside where I’ve never been before.
My friends thought they would eat me, or do a whole lot more.
They hid behind the telephone pole watching in dismay.
They were hoping and praying, they would see me again someday.

She took me to the kitchen where she politely sat me down.
She said her name was Miss Carrie and said I was safe and sound.
She cleaned my knee and bandaged it and talked softly all the while.
When she finished, she stood up and gave me a loving smile.

Miss Carrie became my friend that day and I visited her a lot.
I grew so much on the inside, with everything she had taught.
She taught me to play the piano and make wonderful desserts.
She didn’t like pants on girls so she made me pretty skirts.

Then one day I gave Miss Carrie a special dessert I learned to make.
I couldn’t wait for her to taste it, for it was freshly baked.
Miss Carrie loved it and ate every single bite.
Miss Carrie was my dearest friend and Miss Carrie died that night.

I killed my friend Miss Carrie, I knew that it was true .
I couldn’t tell my mother, but I think my mother knew.
For she seldom mentioned Miss Carrie or how close we were.
I never made that dessert again, ‘cause I always thought of her.

Poor little Bonnie,,,that must have been so hard for you. This is such a nice little story of old and young becoming friends, in spite of differences. I must have made you feel terrible when she died and you blamed your dessert. What an imaginative child you were!
It's a lovely poem, though.

...what a wonderful story you have given us...a memoir...fear of one old...and fear of her death...remembers a friendship of the heavens.
this is great Bonnie...you again give her life...

I don't believe you killed Carrie, Bonnie. It was the Lord's decision to call her home. Cute write, though; makes me think of my own elderly neighbors back in Ohio that I enjoyed visiting (now since passed; how I miss them still!). Thanks for the memories; very well penned!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

My "Miss Carrie", God bless her, rode on her broom to somewhere because I am sure St.Peter said to her "no way Josè" and the Devil didn't want competition in his house. Ha!

Bonnie!!!!!

This is too cute! But I doubt you killed her - it was her time. 'Course, that didn't help then, probably doesn't now, but - used to love visiting my elderly neighbors, Mrs Leach and Mrs Mong stand out so clearly. They were wonderful ladies. Would sit for hours, mesmerized by their stories of what life was like when they were young - thanks for the memories. Knew I couldn't cook, so I didn't make them dessert. LOL Well done, thanks for the laughs this morning!

(((HUGS))), love and God bless YOU, Karla. :D

Oh surely you didn't! It was just her time. I had a Miss Carrie in my life too, not named Carrie but a bit of a recluse that was my dear old friend.
