I Never Talk About 911

I've never written anything about 911 because it was too painful. Yesterday, I awoke and couldn't get it off my mind, hence, this poem.

I Never Talk About 911

I never talk much about 911 for it terrified my soul.
Watching those two towers come down, really took a toll.
I don’t think any of us were prepared or ever truly the same.
Especially hearing one by one, when they called out those names.

There were so many lives lost, so many countless children left behind.
So much heartache in this country, no peace could we find.
As we watched the planes hit, we tried to make sense of it.
All sane reasoning totally failed us for nothing seemed fit.

How could this have happened in this day and age?
Those that did this awful thing were certainly filled with rage.
I don’t think this country can heal or be entirely the same.
Until we find out the reasons and have someone to blame.

It won’t bring the loved ones back of those lost to unfulfilled dreams.
But maybe we can learn from it, when we figure out their scheme.
I for one can never erase what I saw before my eyes.
I can’t forget those planes coming down out of those blue skies.

It’s been awhile now and you’d think the pain would ease.
But every time I see a plane fly low, it brings me to my knees.
I hope those of you out there are doing better then me.
And you can put it in perspective and have serenity.

Oh God bless this country and Lord help us all to heal.
So we can learn to forgive, and once again to feel.

Two of my buddies that survived wars, bullets and ambushes, died in one of the WT towers. I also don't like to talk about 9/11 very much, only I could with my bare hand wring that Osama neck until his head fall off.

I remember being stunned by all that transpired that day... my children still remember well where they were and where I was when we first heard the news... a day never to be forgotten...

And I don't read poems or stories from that fateful day as I had lost my wife & don't need the reminder...though I know the poem was great as you are with all you write...Ed

Bonnie,

On that dark day, one life was saved: mine. It was the day I received my gift (what I call my poetry) - I wrote about it and wrote about it - doesn't lessen the pain - but now I have an outlet for terrible moments - as well as peaceful ones - keep writing -

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
