This is for those that can't remember what we did yesterday but have a special gift, a very special gift.

I Can’t Remember Yesterday

What beautiful gifts my Lord gave me, they lift my spirits high.
My favorite isn’t what you think, its something you can’t buy.
Deep inside my mind just waiting to release what lies in store.
Are the memories of the childhood where I can return once more.

When I go back in time I stay awhile for I always hate to leave.
My wonderful childhood time in the past, you just wouldn’t believe.
I wish I could take you with me; it would give you such a lift.
But then I realized I can take you, because of God’s other gift.

He put a pen in my hand and told me to write my memories down.
“You just might bring a smile to someone when they have a frown.”
“So write my child of the memories that your young life has shown.”
“Occasionally the times aren’t as great when you’re finally grown.”

I can’t remember yesterday, but I remember well my childhood.
It doesn’t bother me a bit, for the old memories are so good.

I too have childhood memories, adult hood memories and new memories in the making still, though a little sadder today then in the past. I try to get out of my grieving but it comes back to me daily. Oh well, I guess the Good lord will strenghten me in his own time. Meanwhile I thankd good friends such as you, Bonnie for encouraging me to do this writing and go on living and have den as good therapy. All the credit goes to you, wonderful friend and counselor.

I seem to have memory problems when I look back, maybe it was the dysfunction of my family, I don't know, but I surely do wish I COULD remember more...or maybe it would be a bad thing...? I will just read of yours...ed

Some are sad that they can't remember yesterday, what about those of us that can't remember today?
But seriously, I kind of envy those that can remember, that have memories of happy childhood, for a few of us, forgetting is the best.

I love your last two lines, and those of us who had wonderful childhoods are very lucky, indeed.

Bonnie,
I often go back in time, I had a good childhood. My mama had 4 boys and 4 girls! We had our own baseball team in our front yard on hot summer days! I was the oldest so had more responsibilty than the other children, more of the work load growing up. Mama had to work 2nd shift, so when I got home from school as a teen, I had to clean, cook, take over where Mama left off. I never complained for I didn't mind. Mama sacraficed alot for us kids. I wish I could go back in time and live over one day that my mama and daddy were still alive. They've both gone to be with the Lord now. Mama died when a car hit her while she crossed the road. She was only 39 yrs old. My Daddy died of CHF. When I find myself missing them greatly I'll go back in time and relive a moment of a far away happy time in my life. Thanks for sharing this poem, Bonnie. Thanks for taking me back.

Many blessings an love,
~Linda
