I’m a Big Girl Now!
I can do it Mommy, I’m a big girl, I can climb up on that chair.
I know you can my darling, but Mommy doesn’t want you there.
For if you’d fall off that chair, you’d break your little precious head.
Now be Mommy’s good girl Sarah, and go play outside instead.
So tiny Sarah went outside to play, just like her mommy said.
She rode up and down the long sidewalk on her tricycle of red.
Ringing her bell and waving at friends as she quickly past by.
Letting them know she was there and her way of saying hi.
Up and down she went until her little legs could go no more.
She got to the corner and stopped, til’ her legs weren’t’ so sore.
When a stranger approached her and told her how cute she was.
He showed her a small jar of beautiful butterflies in it that buzzed.
“Listen,” he said to her, “You can hear the funny noise.”
“I bet your not afraid of them, cause their fun and just like toys.”
“No! I’m not afraid, they’re beautiful and I’m a big girl now.”
“I’m not a scardy cat, I do a lot of things boys don’t know how.”
“Okay, Sweetie,” the man said, “How about an ice cream cone.”
“Oh, do you know my mommy; she won’t let me go alone?”
“Yes, sweetie, I know you’re mommy and she said it was fine.”
So Sarah went with him willingly, because he seemed so kind.
It was the last time anyone saw Sarah, for she disappeared that day.
Leaving two broken hearted parents, in a world of total disarray.

is the problem with people. I have no answer!
I am glad you wrote this poem as parents should be aware of where their children is at all times.I keep asking myself the same questions as to why people would do these things and why this world is a more scarier place than ever before and I can never find the answers too.take care Bonnie

Sadly, often it is the parents that are blamed when a child is abducted...as if the parents don't place enough "if only" guilt upon their own heads.
That being said... it is a scary world out there and one that I don't feel secure in letting my children spend time alone outside. It is a sad comment on society. If only there was a way to stop it...

I often played outside in the street too when I was a little girl when I was back in my hometown Hong Kong. but we didn't have the wierdos like they do nowadays that kidnap children for their pleasures. Parents have to be careful what they say to children, because children might take it the wrong way.

PS: if a new generation of them come forward to take their place shouldn't we go buy more shovels to dig more wells?
