                                 Eve of the Eve....

This Eve of the Eve of the Sacred Night,
When the Veil does part
And we oft take flight
From the faces of those we spy in the night-
Hollow faces that give us a fright..
The Pumpkin's ghoulish grin hangs proud-
And children's voices screaming loud,
Old Mother Moon casts eerie glow,
And Witches on their Brooms fly low.
As Cauldron's steam in the dark of the Woods,
And Bat's fly homeward bound,
I tiptoe up the stairs to bed,
And jump at any sound.
...Top of the stairs and my bedroom door,
The handle starts to shake,
I'm trembling now from head to foot
My voice it starts to quake..
"Who's there now..come out you Spook,
Don't scare me any more.."
And what I saw next made me faint
Flat out on bedroom floor...
An eerie headless floaty Corpse
Just drifted by my face-
I don't remember any more
Till chills upon my face...
I'll never doubt the Spirit World,
Not now I've had such proof-
And headless Apparition went...
Dissolved with scary 'POOF' !!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO EVERYONE!

You have covered the Halloween mystique going all the way back to the headless horseman of Sleepy Hollow. Hauntingly well done. Scaredy-cat.

Diana,

Anytime I receive an email, telling me I have a new write from you, I always know I'm in for a treat. I would love to have had this one to read to my boys and to my grandsons when they were young and into the Halloween thing. It would have also served me well as a teacher. I can picture their eyes growing large as I read, "An eerie headless floaty Corpse Just drifted by my face-". I would have made it all quite dramatic and scared their wits out of them. When my oldest son was a youngster, I would read Jack and the Beanstalk to him. When I got to the part that said, "Fe, fi, fo, fum. I smell the blood of an Englishman," I would stomp my feet and get louder. My son would place his hand over my mouth and say, "Don't say that, Daddy. Don't say that." Then, in no time at all, here he would come, wanting me to read it again. Such good memories. Thanks for sharing.

Love,

David
