Balloons and Favors For All {Normal Rockwell, 1894-1978}
Thought I was going to have to paint you White-bread. Tip-tilt noses, gap-tooth grins and freckles had me thinking you fooled yourself that no one starved. Got pummeled. Robbed, murdered, raped. America, the Land of Cute and Complacent. Fleece in the sky and free tickets to chortle with Goofy. Postman’s Mister Rogers, and the dentist. Specs at half-mast, 100-watt smile no monster could possibly fake. No drug in that grape lollipop. Ma sweet as her pink-frosted cake. Pa teases, doesn't hurt. Dog uses his teeth to smile, Cat lisps and prances like Sylvester then spins rose-cheeked Grandma’s yarn to linguini. All drawn with the skill of a master craftsman. Saturday Evening Post slick and shining with dollops of red, white, and blue.
In time, I discovered the you who rooted out Mean and Sad. Took them on without reservation. Your America began showing her melting pot roots as you helped expose inequality without once forgetting a child needs jolly, by gum. Ice cream and picnics in parks green and safe. Great game! Sure do thank you, Mister. Your pictures rrrroot-a-toot-toot!!

A stunning write my friend...I too love Norman Rockwell's work, I enjoy his artwork so much, it reflects a different time in America, some might say a simpler time...you've captured it well my friend...loved it!

Norman Rockwell is one of my great inspirations of which I incorporate mention of him and his art in my novels. I have a favorite, the one with the woman reclining on a wing chair of that era with her long, tapered fingers dipped into a box of Baxters chocolates with a Scotty dog looking up at her, and then of course the soda fountain Rockwell is priceless...AND the one he did when Henry Ford first drove that car down the street and amazed adults and children peered from house windows! FORDS and ROCKWELL pioneered America...and then there's PEA GREEN! I love you, Pea. I put that message in a lavender balloon and it's floating on it's way to N.C....catch it when it arrives...can't miss it, its tie-dyed with porcupine quills tied on the string & swirled with Sage's glitter!
