           Silver Goes Platinum


 
A cloudburst cools a sweat-suited day,
allowing green to wax sublime.
 
A night of forgotten cups and paces
ends in, “She’ll be fine.”
 
A shower  fills a dead-dry creek
coaxing children to bloom on its banks.
 
Another  long  dry   work   week
pays a few bills.  Thanks.
 
A hint of a smile from a dying friend
ties a bow around  Please know I love you.
 
A fire  fights a chill with its own special blend
of pine scent and sparkles red, orange, blue.
 
A defiant child volunteers,  "Sorry,"
then dashes, all knees and elbows, for a hug.
 
A long-awaited letter puts  an end  to worry
while giving conscience a  needed  tug.
 
A critter who has been hard not to hate
breaks you up over a “squirrel-proof” feeder.
 
A break in traffic keeps you from being late
for a healthy dose of theater.
 
A weed sprouts a flower of surprising beauty,
nudging memory to present a hollyhock doll.
 
A friend hurdles shyness to do his duty
by refusing to let Ignorance speak for all.
 
A telephone wire beside a road you take home
glitters copper, erasing litter and the blahs
 
As lavender and apricot twilight a dome,
sealing proof that Life holds beauty and heart.
