“Bird of Prey”

I become a bird of prey
seeking out your sex
the moment your curves
appear over the horizon
I become your welcomed lover
when the candles flicker dim
as stars sweep across the sky
to disappear at light of dawn
scurrying off far like fireflies
when the night has been bled
when constellations disassemble
and then my eyes grow weary
yet my body has a mind of its own
when my mind races only to you

I become a bird of prey
hunger is nearly all I can feel
thirst is all that consumes me
knowing that only love quenches
as I seek the shelter of your smile
for it erases the long bitter battle
that has raged in my imagination
faltering rapidly in loosened words
I fly high through partial sunlit skies
as morning filters into your skin
seeking your warmth in a kiss
leading deeper into your forest
where moist warm lips linger
and unfurl in the heat of day

I become a bird of prey
diving headfirst into your ocean
where the waves of passion call
beckoning me close to the edge
between sharp rocks and cliffs
where nests are perched above
and the surge or your want cries
leaving no inch of you unkissed
as you quiver in the warm mist
carrying overspray from the surf
and fine grains of sugared sand
borne by breeze of morning’s lust
and it is there I am in your arms
and by love I have shed my wings
