You capture a unique thing in this poem, Linda. There is desperation and doubt in Christmas these days, as lives become reality shows where nothing is surprising and love is somehow MIA in too many lives. I love how you used the 6-year-old voice to speak this truth. Very well done :-)

Your poem reads like a movie or story where one is emotionally tied to the characters...Christmas is the season where we tend to either feel the joy of it all or the sorrow around us...maybe we should accept both and truly look inside of ourselves to find the true meaning of Christmas...as children we are not aware or don't understand the many sorrows as we are when we are adults but children can see more than we give them credit for....let us hope and pray this Christmas for a better world, for peace and harmony, and let us pray that God can change everything into a joy...

AND DO YOU KNOW WHY THERE ARE SO MANY HOMELESS LIVING IN CARDBOARD BOXES????, BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID OF SHELTERS RUN BY LARGE CITIES

That baby born in a lowly stable so long ago was Jesus. All children need to know him and believe he works for their good and can give them a good Christmas too. Although Jesus is the reason for the season little children need to celebrate it with love, gifts, and many other decorations and need help from loving parents to get their lives more sound.

What we need is the rebirth of hope.
But try to explain to children that once Christmas will be special again.
So, though times are hard, we can stop for a day thinking about it and just give a present of hug and open heart. Children will enjoy it non the less.

A remarkable tale of how are children carry the fears and worry of an adult. They pick up on our grown up woes and carry them silently as not to bother us. Christmas magic is somewhere..buried deep in our hearts-and to release it, we need to share with those in need. Perfect timing for this writing!

The "Gift of the Magi" was about the Magic of giving through love and sacrifice. I taught that story for thirty years and loved it every time I taught it. The discussions after the reading were the best part.

When they try to take Christ out of Christmas, there's no magic, no joy left. This is why I choose to celebrate Jesus rather than the commericalism aspect of CHRISTmas; we need to remember the REAL Reason for the Season: the Birth of the Holy Babe!!
