A poem God gave me to share with dear friends in the loss of their precious son, Levi!

 Words Just Would Not Come-

In Loving Memory of Levi Rhett Modder -

          August 12, 2021 - February 14, 2025

Something happened, with lightning speed,

It came from no where—a dire need.

So sudden, seemed the tide had turned,

No ebb and flow; now waters churned!

From calm and still, to cruel and wild…

With raging force, upon the child.

How could this happen? one would ask,

Is this for real? perhaps a task…

An undertaking, test of faith,

Please say I’m sleeping, let me wake!

This is not fair, how could this be?

What have I done? Please let me see

The ends will justify the means,

A broken heart now strives to glean!

It seems the fight within is real,

Through fast and prayer, a new ordeal

That’s never left this void before;

A struggle fierce, comes o’er and o’er.

This bitter cup, please cast aside.

Its purpose, though—destroy all pride.

There are no words that would convey

The depth of sorrow felt that day.

Words would not come, but constant thought,

“Dear God, don’t let this be for naught!”

Although there are no answers clear,

One thing remains, so keep it near-

The love of God is still the same,

When all else fails, call on His name!

Matthew 19: 14 “But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

I don't know what caused Levi's death, but you convey the feeling that his parents must be feeling very, very well.

Of all the losses that come to us in life, the loss of our small children hits the hardest. I wish them well and quick recovery. Perhaps they are young enough to have another Levi to help take his place.

How beautifully heart touching. It will not be in vain. I felt the loss deep in my spirit but the expectation of holy fruit.

I read this last night before retiring and once again upon awakening. I read it a third time to my wife during coffee this morning. We both wept. I am truly sorry for the loss. In our experiences, grief does not change you, it reveals you. And this is evidenced in your words, as you effectively convey the range of emotions and thoughts a mind and heart can go through. For a while, (as we’ve experienced) when one person is missing, the whole world seems empty. Thankfully the pain of it all eventually passes, but praise God Most High, the beauty remains. Michele and I both extend our deepest and most profound sympathies to you and Levi’s parents. Thank you for sharing… rlc
