At some point, everyone struggles with sorrow, bringing on unique awareness, for some, a welcome resolve. For others short of crossing the Rubicon, to have had such an experience and survived, is still to grow and discover reality as a sometimes-harsh teacher.

Everyday Remains Yesterday
by Odin Roark
Even as winter ends
the cold persists.
Morning awakenings
endure shadows of the past.
Everywhere
good wishes collapse mute.
Bouquet openings
become but empty vases.
Imaginings’ hesitant touches
forever pretend.
Intimate whispers diminish to
but a concretized silence.
The simple music
of children's laughter,
the comforting essence
of rose petals beneath one's touch,
the taste of memory’s fragrance,
finds permanency mere folly.
Time seems to stop.
Dreams of a future
become nightmares of past disappointment,
the taste of shame’s alum-tinctures
becoming forever's aftertaste.
When regret finds no escape,
and shackles of blame
hold firm inside walls of guilt,
clouds remain forever
void of destiny’s cleansing rain.
Might it be...
Everyday remains yesterday
until discovering a perceived tomorrow
is but a patient-today awaiting sunrise?
