Lives That Live - redux

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

What does one do with repeating dreams? I find it interesting how experiences of the distant past can come back to one in dreams and arrest new appreciations. When I first saw “Live for Life, directed by Claude Lelouch in 1967, I was caught up in the elusive nature of man’s actions, his quest to discover answers. In Mr. Lelouch’s case, such answers were not imbued by a particularly arresting story (in fact, rather boring at times), but in his propensity for visual and audio communication above and beyond the value of words and plot. It has stayed with me all these years, keeping alive the feeling of kinship with my own modes of expression. This is an attempt to express a small appreciation for his cinematic work and his lasting message. (Image by Jerry Ueismann)

Lives That Live (redux)

Are there those knowing
not of avarice beneath the cloth
exposing elements innate,
allowing light of trajectories
to seek ISness of path?

Do such persons wander
freely as fluff from cottonwood,
floating warily
to avoid clinging,
and death?

Is there drinking
little of glory,
but openly embracing encounters,
knowing each moment
upon the desert enforces
gratitude for water’s small reward?

Do they embrace verdicts
as always a quenching of
one’s own creation,
the creating of one’s own reality?

Wondrous,
these feathered creatures that soar,
these scaled antiquities that swim,
these cells that clamor,
whether confined in Petri dish ,
or a protective mother's umbilical nourishing.

Who resolves
to be not victim,
or bearer of sword?

Quash not the thunder
or find discomfort from rain,
for liquid knows forward-down,
as flowers know up,
as the unborn sense beyond.

Yes.

We are Here.
Man either accepting his existence
as part of infinity's spec-like dust
or begrudging eternity’s cyclical essence.

To be
or
not to be,
as the Bard always knew,
is but
nature's womb of nurture.

The fortunate understand
that breath has a time-table to meet,
‘til birth’s moment of cries
beckons to the eternal echoes,
announcing the exit of Was for
for a life that Is.

Such begins the living moment to moment awareness,
the survivalist’s need to live for life.

This reminded me, a little anyway, of "Horton Hears A Who", Dr. Suess.
Only "Horton", an elephant, heard the Who of Whoville, I may be off on the Whos that lived on a speck of dust, seemingly. You have made it all so easy to understand. Thank you!

Love ya!

We are all survivalists. And when we are young we are invincible and think we will live forever. Many of us in middle age are still thinking we will make it someday if we just continue plodding in the same direction.

Some remarkably memorable lines in this poem:

"breath has a timetable to meet"
"for liquid knows forward down / as flowers knows up."

Gems among other gems in this treasure.
