Nature in Retreat

Have you ever…

held on the sound of crickets
lamenting the loss of silent darkness?

Those who have know that the men
who came with their cables of light
destroyed the songs that once filled the desert air
and the symphonies ounce of moonlight.

Have you ever…

touched the flame of fireflies
as they huddle in the shadows of scorching neon,
the endless pulsation of man's loss of innocence?

Those who have, know the sparkling of nature's night watchmen
who may never be seen again in this maze of indulgent corridors.

Have  you ever…

listened to the silent vibration of your essence?

Those who have, know the crickets and the firefly
like themselves.

As you walk the avenues of life's shock and awe,
its searing light and sound show
beg to be embraced.

Remember
everyone has a chance to win
or just Be

Some have listened and seen,

some have not.

Have you ever been to Vegas?

It's everywhere…

and nowhere,

according to Nature.

Indeed, so much is lost, including silence and darkness, by the spread of neon (Vegas) in the modern world. Forget about seeing the stars if you live in a modern metropolis. I have lived in desert areas and as soon as you get out of town, you are in the middle of nowhere, infinite darkness illuminated by specks of stars. Beautiful.

My son sailed on the QM2 from New York home to the UK.. and one
of his favourite times at night, was simply to go up to the top deck to
look at the stars without light pollution...
He said it was unbelievably beautiful, and he felt at total Peace...
It is so sad that few get to experience such an awe inspiring celestial display...

Your second verse I found so very sad...
describing the fireflies huddled in the shadows of scorching neon..
‘The endless pulsation of man’s loss of innocence...’
What a great line!
A powerful elegant piece which I enjoyed reading ...

I've heard that the cicadas are emerging after a long hiatus to a world that is unlike the one they left. Much more light and sound pollution to mesh with their mating cycle. At least their mating call is still loud enough to drowned out most road traffic now that tires are better and electric cars emit no sound at all. But all this light may confuse them like all the traffic and windows like mirrors in cities that the birds have a tendency to crash into, only bruising their egos if they are lucky.

I feel your pain, but I can't hear your refrain above the sound's vibrations.

"Have you ever...listened to the silent vibration of your essence?" Now that's a mouthful. Brought to mind a Hans Arp quote. "Soon silence will have passed into legend. Man has turned his back on silence. Day after day he invents machines and devices that increase noise and distract humanity from the essence of life, contemplation, and meditation." And 'vibration'.... everything in life vibrates. Every human brain is both a broadcasting and receiving station for the vibration of thought. Your mind is still sharp Odinsan, something I'm certain you're thankful for. Blessings... rlc
