Deafening Silence
Is it courage that beckons
He tap on the wall
After light has gone to rest,
All in the hope that
Someone,
Anyone,
Anything,
Might hear?
How dense the concussion of stillness.
How alone evasion makes one.
How famished the heart,
As estranged muteness stands defiant.
Is the world locked away
Where the turnkey
Responds only to the desperate?
His firm taps
Spell out his identity.
He dozes off.
His mind remaining in freefall.
His grounding remaining afloat
In the suffocating air of nothingness.
Compassion hears,
Sends him a painting of hope
Its colors gathering density
As he awakens
To the sound of his heartbeat
Gratefully heard above the din of silence.
Even vibrations of silence are without end,
And grace in one form or another,
Somewhere,
Sometime,
Receives,
And
Returns the wonderment
Like an ocean ripple cycling the shore.
