Life's Stormy Relay

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Our country is assuredly in crisis as governance is rapidly eroding democracy- There are some who dread the years ahead, while as writers, time seems to bring as its reward experienced words finally arriving. Then, for still others, a poem or two a day becomes possible.(Image by Odin AI)

Poem Artwork

 Life’s Stormy Relay

Moments Alone in darkness

Removed from day’s imitation

Invites quiet as comfort

Closing one’s eyes

Reveals childhood playgrounds

Where companions shared Alone

Telling of secrets

Once stories filling idle time

While cocooned in tree house intrigue

Such memories

Like under-rock-secrets

Found in shadowy woods

Forever remain as straying-off-trail-discoveries

One’s finish line for life’s stormy relay

A cross country run through time

Finally becoming the dial-face in the sky

For some

Time’s aspect bears not a father’s face

Nor the big and little hands of a mother

Once gently nudging hours along

Instead

Paternal time now relaxes

 Daliesque

All names eventually merge

As a lamina among leaves

Embraced by the wind

Where remembrance flickers

Like one’s book of candles

Timeless pages once read by their own burning

Now

At last

Finally

Peacefully

Alone becoming…

These lines and their interiors are completely gorgeous, Odin. There waves grace in the connotations that, in the reading, feel like walking through wheat fields of gold brushed by the wind. “..experienced words finally arriving.” indeed and may they keep coming. Yours here portray opposition to the title “Life’s Stormy Relay,” because these lines feel to me like, “After Life’s Stormy Relay.”. And I guess that is the idea = “ One’s finish line for life’s stormy relay” and therefore “..words finally arriving.” I appreciate the ‘father Time’ line, and the Salvador Dali term I had to look up, along with ‘lamina,’ so thank you. Oh, and “Like one’s book of candles” — so unique. ~~ djl. P.S. Favorite line: “ Timeless pages once read by their own burning” ~~ djl

Forgetting may be what allows the aged to peacefully coexist with their declining bodies by merely just closing their eyes and leaning back. In the old days on the porch with their lemonade, but now probably during a break in watching television.
