We Met in Paradise

After a week's vacation on the Red Sea, my fiancee asked me to write a poem in remembrance of those 7 days in Egypt. She gave it the title.

Poem Artwork

Gentle breezes combed the sea and sunlight drenched the beaches;

the sands glistened like the purest linens

suitable only for the Pharaohs.

Palm trees swayed in rhythm with the sounds of nature.

This setting was ours, and if we were to capture all

that Fate had fashioned for us,

we had to set our bodies, our minds, and our souls adrift

into the mood of this place of places~

into the wonders of this land of enchantment.

From one thousand and one Arabian nights

magical illusions and trumpeting music filled the air.

You danced with all the allure of Salome, and

your contagious laughter left its imprint on even the smallest observer.

But the best was yet to be.

Luxor lay in ruins, but the stone of love erected only for

those whose love is blooming stood unblemished against the sky.

Seven times around that eternal monument we walked—hand in hand

While silently we pledged our love for each other.

Physical love moves, but spiritual love moves mountains.

Let the earth shake!  Let mountains crumble!  Let the Heavens know!

We met, we loved, we found each other; and

now our hearts beat as one.

Milton told us of Paradise Lost.

But can it ever be lost?

Perhaps for the nonbeliever.  Or for the insincere.

But this Paradise is ours forever~

For who can doubt the passion,

and who can doubt the Truth,

when two hearts meet, and—wondrously—

One spirit emerges?

Loved it! And the beauty of the work was the opportunity to walk Luxor with you and to imagine the serenity of the love that was blooming for you in Paradise. Poetry can, when carefully sculpted, allow others to share intimate thoughts and moments. Thank you for taking us along for the ride.
