Who Speaks for Our Children?
A message for Congress
Who speaks for our children in this moment of madness
When maniacs’ bullets fill our nation with sadness?
Their gravesites are silent though they’re covered with flowers
We’ve prepared the ground well for eternity’s hours.
Walk once in their shoes, and you’ll learn something of pain
You have nothing to lose, they have nothing to gain.
They wish you no harm, they’re not coming back
We just want to stop another brutal attack.
We’re not pointing fingers, but there’s something profane
When you ignore so many voices again and again.
33 Americans will die today, ten thousand more will cry and they’ll say
“Enough!” the voices of reason must carry the day.
The time is now to start turning the tide
We must stand together and set politics aside
We ask only for action that shows you're magnanimous
Who speaks for our children? Let’s make it unanimous.

It is ironic that you posted this two days before the Boston tragedy. It's like that's all there IS anymore is tragedy. Yes, enough is enough. God Bless You.

They simple know, instinctively, how to live in the moment
being truly interested in others (without trying),
making others feel loved and important, especially,
in moment of loss (national tragedy), confident to be
unique....taking nothing for granted, showing true care,
curiosity about the welfare of others, and above all,
never stop learning, and.........have good laughter.

While I was composing a response to your excellent poem, I noticed a no response comment had been entered by accident. I immediately went to my message tracker and deleted the blank comment. Unfortunately, when I came back through to make the comment, AD told me that I couldn't because I had already made a comment (even though I had deleted it). I will try again later to post a comment, but if I can't, here it is… Below.

I had heard some time ago, and then recently from Piers Morgan that Britain got fed up with all the killing a long time ago and banned handguns. The result was that the killing stopped.
When the second amendment was written, we feared the King of England would return either from abroad, like an 1812, or from within like in 1860. The handgun in the old West served a purpose that is no longer necessary, vigilante law. While the gun culture in America is deeply entrenched in history, that does not mean that we can't change. Most of us are now citydwellers with enhanced security systems and very good police. It is time we look at the tradition of gun ownership as possibly more dangerous for our children than some hypothetical fear of being invaded and not having any self-defense.
