My Last Request
I stand in solemn wonderment of all that I can see
Across the vast expanse of space beyond my ability
To penetrate and comprehend the true identity
How all of this came to exist with such serenity.
And standing here on firmer ground a certainty implores
I am part of this majestic scene a glimpse of so much more.
“To be or not to be” ‘tis an eloquent question to ask
To answer in the affirmative seems such an easy task.
What contribution can I make to justify my existence
To satisfy my gratitude to focus my persistence?
Alas time moves its incessant hand and does not wait for me
And so constrained within myself requires pure honesty –
To give to build to understand to lend a helping hand
To shun all taking destroying killing and yet to take a stand
To be a voice for reason to share in Nature’s treasures
To educate participate in just the simple pleasures
To laugh to love to sing to dance in simple harmony
To comfort and console those given less in life than me.
And when I’m gone my last request is just a memory –
I did my best forgave the rest and want no monuments to me.
When applying for a new position, we are often asked to write our objective. For the rest of your life, you have written your objective well.
