Milestones
 
Some ruts are OK
Like my annual calendar
Featuring Marilyn Monroe;
A sunset cruise capped by
Dinner wine and dancing
Out on the bay;
Even all those leaves
That scatter themselves
In every nook and cranny
Of my yard;
A block party where
I read my worst poem
Of the year;
My annual golf trip with
Old friends that get
Better with age;
New leisure shoes;
Even my health and
My golf game
Are improving;
And who says you
Can’t change the world?
I see the arc of history
Bending and that is
Good enough;
Tonight a quiet dinner
At my favorite hideaway;
In a world that swirls with
Turmoil and hate--
Reasons to live
Goals worth dying for;
Half a loaf is sometimes
The whole of what is
Possible;
And then there is the
Finale—
Today is my birthday
And I never felt better.

Without this kind of positive attitude, the aging will rot and decay with only regret and resentment to occupy their last breath. An honest and encouraging piece of wordsmithing. Thank you for posting.
