America: Last Bastion of Hope
This is our land, our sacred land
Enclosed by mighty seas
Where we are born the unadorned
Yet wrapped in harmony.
We live we love and this above
United in liberty
Despite the crest of unevenness
Or mocked by turbidity.
With checkered past our tale is cast
Our faults are all ablaze
We stand together in solemnity
When disjointedness inveighs.
America, America condemn her if you must
But never doubt when we lend a hand
When humanity's cause is just
That’s right where we make our stand.
Heaven grants neither favor nor certainty
Of that there’s no denying
Still, we'll fight to bend the arc of history
Or die in the glory of trying.

"The task of leadership is not to put greatness into humanity, but to elicit it, for the greatness is already there." --John Buchan
All that being said, I enjoyed reading your skillfully and passionately written "America: Last Bastion of Hope" and appreciate your sharing your poetry.

and there is no doubt America ‘lends a hand’
“when humanity’s cause is just”
We certainly acknowledge this here in the UK…
All countries have a checkered past…
But the thing is to keep on trying…
Let’s keep hoping for a balanced outlook
and continuance of democracy…
A good reminder of our strength over tyranny that seems at times all around.
