A story in poetic form that shows the life of living in the streets or with no home. I was once homeless and know the tribulations of those without.

HOMELESS

The thunder and lightning seemed angry without a cause
The rain with its crying would not pause
To see what brought tears to my eyes
Someone under a tree was homeless and despised.

Lying in the rain a man shivered under a tree
The thunder and lightning was furious as can be
How could he sleep openly exposed?
          As the violent elements transposed.

Tears mingled with rain was the menu for the day
As the homeless man under the tree did lay
His lips kissed the ground and made no sound
As the crackle of lightning and thunder rebound.

Homeless and without shelter is a pity
It is a way of life for some in the city
Everyday the pangs of hunger in the stomach makes it growl
The pangs of anguish deep inside howl.

Brother, can you let me have a dime
In tattered clothes full of grime
The homeless to you approach
The desperate need is his coach.

I put my feet on the brakes and screech to a halt
          Mind numb, zombie without thought
From puddle to puddle slipping and sliding
Making a path to where the homeless is residing.

God knows the hurt that greeted my eyes
As I made it by his side
With shakes from the cold he tried to speak
Hunger, exposure, and cold from the rain he is weak.

In his eyes you could see his soul
He tries to gain consciousness as the bells toll
As he tries to focus does he see an angel or the devil again
Here to test his strength deep within.

The homeless see a hand reaching out
His mind is numb what is this all about
Does he grab the bait of this lifeline?
Or ignore and continue to resign.

Homeless in the Hood is exposed to many faces of danger
Even when you have nothing beware of the stranger
All who offer a helping hand is not for good
Given the chance some would kill you if they could.

With a look into the strangers eyes
          Homeless comes to realize
His intentions are to assist
There is no need to resist.

The urge is to ask for change to go to the Coney
This stranger offered more than just money
He offered a chance for a meaningful life
That would give purpose to his days from this strife.

In his hands he put God’s word
Prayed to God that we be heard
To let this be his last homeless day
And gave him monetary sustenance as he made his way.
As time passed the space under the tree lay bare
I wonder if the man is under God’s care
Has he put him in a warm place with a roof over his head?
With cover to wrap his body in a comfortable bed.

Where he is I do not know
But under that tree he lives no more
The homeless one shared no name
The plight of some they are not to blame.

Today, tomorrow and yet to come
For the homeless there will always be some
My prayers and works go out to the homeless with a call
Let God be your strength; your all and all.

Tommy: I'm just about speechless and in awe; as to your words there should really be a law. That your writing being such a gift; should be read by many to get that positive lift. I will have to come back to read your writings again; sometime soon for in your words is a blessing all the way to the end. (smile) Sis "D"
